I don’t think it’s come up on my blog much, but I am a HUGE hockey fan. I grew up just outside of Detroit and spent my youth watching the Detroit Red Wings. This upcoming season in the NHL is there last at Joe Louis Arena, the arena I grew up going to. So when the organization announced a 5K run kicking off the farewell season with the finish line at center ice, I knew I had to sign up.
The Hockeytown 5K will take place September 10, 2016. The race course starts at the arena and makes it’s way along the Detroit River and back with an epic finish at center ice where a one-of-a-kind medal will be received. Even better, Red Wings players and alumni will be there throughout the course and in the arena to cheer the runners on.
Following the run is the post-race 5K Festival which includes special photo opportunities with retired jersey and championship banners, Q&A sessions, autograph signings, a Red Wings locker room tour, interactive hockey games, prize giveaways and much more. Whether you’re a Red Wings fan like me, or just a hockey fan, this race is not one to miss.
Even you live somewhere outside of the Detroit area and don’t want to travel 1228.8 miles like I am, you can participate in the virtual race, and still receive the race shirt and medal.
And now, I’ll be counting down the days until this race…just like I’m counting down the days until the 2016-2017 NHL season starts.
