Today marked the first day of training for the Walt Disney World Half Marathon taking place in January. I kicked off the morning with a 30 minute run. Despite facing 95% humidity, I actually ran 2.51 miles, which resulted in a 12:06 average pace. For the first training run, I’ll call that a success.
Since I have an Apple Watch now, I dove in to the stats. My average heart rate was 162 BPMs, which is a bit higher than I would like in order to maintain distance running. Since it was extremely humid out and it was only a 30 minute run, I’m not overly concerned about it, but I do want to slow my pace a bit when I get to those longer ones so I can maintain the pace for longer.
Tomorrow is a rest day and that will be nice. I started the week with 20 minutes on the bike, so after two days of cardio I will gladly take a day to relax. Thursday I’m back at it with another 30 minute run and Saturday I will do my first distance run, which is a nice 3 mile one. I’m also planning to get a yoga session in at some point this week so I can really stretch out my muscles.
